I spent most of the day at the Fair on Tuesday, 18 April. It was very busy. All children\u2019s publishers of NF were upbeat and most said they were open to submissions. Some even have Submissions policies on their websites.<\/p>\n

It appears packager Calcium is now publishing most of what it has done before and new stuff under the name of\u00a0Children\u2019s Books, so I guess that is one place for people to target. The usual suspects were present: Arcturus, Booklife, Miles Kelly, Weldon Owen, Welbeck, Michael O\u2019Mara. And a good number of US publishers said they were open to pitches from UK authors.<\/p>\n

On the evening of 19 April, I did my webinar for www.writingblueprints.com<\/a>\u00a0in the US, Writing Children\u2019s Nonfiction: A Beginner\u2019s Guide.<\/em>About 150 signed up.<\/p>\n

The 2022 ALCS Educational Writers Award is given each year to:\u00a0 \u2018an outstanding example of traditionally published non-fiction that stimulates and enhances learning’. The 2022 award was made on 22 February 2023 at the Goldsmith\u2019s Ccentre, London. The winning title was What\u2019s the T?<\/em>, which ALCS describes as \u2018a no-nonsense guide to all things trans and non-binary written by award-winning author and former PSHE teacher, Juno Dawson, with drawings by visual artist and illustrator, Soofiya.\u2019<\/p>\n

The School Library Association (SLA) awards were announced on 25 November, and Nibweb member Anita Ganeri<\/strong> was honoured with the Hachette Children\u2019s Group Award for Outstanding Contribution to Information Books. Launched in 2017, the award is given to an eminent UK writer or illustrator of information books for children, to mark an exceptional contribution to excellence in their field. Here\u2019s what the SLA has to say about Anita\u2019s work:<\/p>\n
